Bill Wheaton, Senior Geospatial Scientist, and Jay Rineer, Director, Geospatial Science and Technology program at RTI International will describe the structure, content, and applications of a Synthetic Population of the U.S. The Synthetic Population is a computer representation of each household and individual in the U.S. where household-level and person-level characteristics match census aggregated counts at the census block group level and locations of each synthetic household match high resolution population density estimates.

The South Big Data Hub Infrastructure working group has enlisted the help of members from the south region and is working in collaboration with the Midwest, West, and NE Big Data Hubs, including representatives from the National Data Service, XSEDE, DataNet Federation, and iRODS consortia. The WG will conduct a requirements analysis of Hub spokes and members, map existing assets, schedule demos of key components for a federated system, and through a testbed, demonstrate an analysis integrating NDS Labs, XSEDE and discovery environment. Community Engagement Working Group

The South Big Data Hub Community Engagement Working Group met for the second time on August 4th. Members from more than a dozen institutions participated in the call, to develop “use cases” as an essential way to educate and help new entrants to data science or HPC navigate the decisions surrounding which cyber-infrastructure tools are appropriate for a given project. The working group is seeking to collect tangible use cases from different domains, forms of cyber-infrastructure, and software tools.  Initial calls will be open. The First Workshop of Mission-Critical Big Data Analytics 

The event will take place on May 16-17, 2016 at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX, USA. This two-day workshop will cover the state-of-the-art research and development in big data analytics, especially for mission-critical applications.
